Do you ever wonder where the products we eat come from? We ask ourselves this every day because the basis of a good dish is the products used, only ingredients selected from the best. Our priority is to ensure that our customers consume only products of the highest quality, created with great passion and utmost competence, from small local producers and traders, which our team of chefs then transforms into exquisite dishes according to traditional recipes.

We would like to show you all our products in the foreground, from the fruit and vegetables of Trevi srl delivered directly to the Apetta, to the eggs of the Galline Felici which are ethically treated and hand-picked, to the genuine dairy products of Le bontà di Setaro with whom we have been collaborating for over 20 years, and the top-quality food products of our Pino Possi from box 106 at the San Giovanni di Dio Market. All our products are carefully chosen to bring you the best flavours of the Roman tradition and beyond.

Our coffee is extremely close to our hearts. We have been working with Torrefazione Caffè Braccio for many years now to offer our customers the taste of the finest coffee blends around. We firmly believe that that sacred moment when you enjoy a good coffee after a meal at Piccolo Arancio should absolutely be celebrated. We always accompany it with homemade Tozzetti or Lingue di Gatto.

History and curiosities of one of Italy’s most loved, discussed and fought-over typical dishes.

The correct term for this delicious pasta that has been feeding Romans and tourists for generations comes from the town of Amatrice in the province of Rieti, where they invented this type of pasta, which before the introduction of the tomato (which only arrived in Europe after Christopher Columbus’ discovery of America) was in white and was called ‘Gricia’. Amatrice is on the Via Salaria (built by the Romans, and called the ‘salt road’, because through it they went to fetch salt at S.Benedetto del Tronto on the Adriatic), so it has always been connected to Rome, and for this reason its cooks have always moved to Rome, and by moving to the capital they also imported the use of Amatriciana, which was so successful that it was declared ‘Roman‘, as a dish of Roman tradition. There is talk of its recipe in Rome as early as 1700. Although its original name would be Amatriciana, for us Romans who use shortened words, Amatriciana has become Matriciana. As far as its preparation is concerned, there is one thing you cannot go wrong about, the original recipe calls for the use of guanciale (pork cheek).
